DPR Hits "Grand Slam" at Annual International Healthcare Conference and Exhibition
Some 20 DPR healthcare professionals from across the country joined the more than 2,500 registered attendees to share and learn new ideas and processes at the 2006 International Conference and Exhibition on Health Facility Planning, Design and Construction (PDC) in San Diego in late February of this year.
Sponsored by the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects Academy of Architecture for Health (AIA/AAH), the annual conference has been recognized by Tradeshow Week as one of the 50 fastest-growing shows for two consecutive years and featured more than 60 educational sessions, including a “standing-room-only” presentation on “Applying LEAN Principles to Healthcare Construction” held by David Pixley of Sutter Health, Dean Reed of DPR Construction and Walt Vernon of M & A Consultants and Engineers. To a crowd of more than 500 professionals, Pixley, Reed and Vernon gave an overview of basic LEAN ideas, the lessons learned from the application of LEAN principles on the current Camino Medical Group project in Mountain View, CA (see next page), and LEAN tools that could be used on other healthcare projects.
In addition to the educational nature of the event, PDC provided DPR with an opportunity to commemorate another “great year in healthcare” and its win of the 2006 ASHE Vista Award for Asante Health System’s Rogue Valley Medical Center renovation project in Medford, OR. Ranked the fifth largest healthcare general contractor in the country by Modern Healthcare magazine, DPR celebrated at PDC with more than 250 friends and colleagues during its “Grand Slam” hospitality event at Petco Park.
